We wrote Brutal Lottery 4 years ago, but it never felt like the right time to release it. It is a song about the alarming number of refugee children that have gone missing upon arrival in Europe in the last few years.
We recorded the vocals live together last November at JRS studios to the simple Wurlitzer track. We would normally do a lot of vocal takes, overdubs and layers, but the take we got with this felt like the right one- imperfect and at times jarring.
All proceeds of the Bandcamp sales will go directly to Missing Children Europe- an NGO that works tirelessly trying to solve and prevent cases of missing refugee children. Donate if you can, but please share and let people know about this issue- it is scarcely covered in the media.
Missing Children Europe estimates that at least 10,000 refugee children go missing every year upon arrival in Europe, meaning at least 40,000 since we wrote this song.
